I am 51 and like everyone here, I grew up with Karen's voice. She bridged the generation gap between my father and I. We both treasured our Carpenters albums. It is just so sad that she couldn't be as positive about her body image as her voice.

Well said Jeff. I can see you loved her too. I forget how many musical instruments she and Richard could play, but it was several. I miss her so much.

I couldn't agree more! She was such a gifted vocalist, and drummer. You don't find many female drummers with such amazing talent. She was musically gifted in every sense. Such a tragic loss. I'm 43 and remember hearing her music at such a very young age, and remained a fan my whole life. A tremendous loss.

Fantastic song... But the vid has little if anything to do with the songs content. The song itself isn't sad at all. It's hopeful... Optimistic.

There is a deeper meaning to each song they composed and most of these songs we can relate to our everyday endeavors.
This song is one of those that will make you think deep about life , the people who cared for you and those you endear so much.

I am 62 years old now and I have lived long enough now to have seen some of my all time favorite singers pass on, many way before they should have. There is still a dark void inside my heart having lost Karen, George Harrison,John Lennon, Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline. Also Buddy Holly,Big Bopper and Richie Valens. It's just sad to me. But I think the loss of Karen Carpenter has left the longest, deepest pain. What an angel she was and is. I miss her so much.

I'm only 12 and love the Carpenters music so much. It's so sad she died way before I was born.

Karen was a great singer and a special person on earth. Eventually we can join her and go on with peace in death we could not find in life.
renesterm - 3.5.2012 22:16:14
Sad song reflects her life a tragic end

I agree, Today's music lacks sincerity, romance and the fantasy of music. Music can relate to a deep love gained or lost. I don't even play the radio much. I still purchase classic pop group CD's..........I wrote Richard Carpenter after the passing of Karen. I didn't get a response but told him to be strong and that his sister gave us all so much love and enjoyment. I saw them in concert at least before she passed on from us. Love ya Karen. David

This song came out the end of 1983, for I have the record. I only recently found out the Karen Carpenter had died earlier in the year. (I was very busy trying to get an MBA from Penn State.) It was almost another decade before A&M released the album Karen had finished solo in early 1980.
I have never seen this video, but I am not surprised it's Japanese. The Carpenters are still well loved in Japan. I think Richard and his daughters still tour Japan.
MKBaughan - 19.4.2012 18:12:25
This song (and album) are amazing because they are almost all first takes.... Karen never got to finish working on it... I have to admit my favorite on here is NOW.... but Karen had wonderful pitch and very rarely needed to redo a song...
SPEEDY196840 - 8.4.2012 0:55:12
this is not her song
starlx - 2.4.2012 7:08:07
im 28. i love her songs. her voice is very soothing which is such a contrast to her struggles.
meheregain - 16.3.2012 4:25:55
Karen was a true jem with that angelic voice I still never tire of hearing her songs. Thank you for posting these songs. And Richard too!!!
starwitchstone - 10.3.2012 23:02:20
Have you heard "Goodbye to Love"? That's definitely the saddest Carpenter's song ever.
greymoose1000 - 7.3.2012 22:39:41
Karen Carpenter was ten times the singer that Whitney Houston was for sure. Whitney Houston could not modulate well enough and attempted to composate by singing louder. That does not equate into a better voice by any stretch.
mostevilbitch - 4.3.2012 2:45:23
Je l'écoute toujours de temps en temps
MrLinoventura - 4.3.2012 1:53:08
.....merci .....
mostevilbitch - 4.3.2012 1:19:51
Elle avait la plus belle voix que j'entendais jamais!
mostevilbitch - 4.3.2012 1:07:56
I agree completely with your observation. There's never been a voice like Karen Carpenter.
