Here's my view on the whole "Djent" topic: Djent isn't a genre, it's a guitar toning. It was first coined by Meshuggah to describe the sound of their guitar pickups. I personally like to use the term Djent Metal because to me, that describes the kind of Metal that have Djenty pickups along with Groove influenced palm-muting, plus it makes it more official. Periphery is a Djent Metal band and Meshuggah is a Technical Extreme Metal band with Djenty pickups.

KramNoobsauce - 23.5.2012 23:23:58
I see so much lack of talent.
Ponzz42 - 23.5.2012 22:31:00
Thats what Djent is, the style of guitar playing.
dwermc - 23.5.2012 20:41:53

December 21st, 2012, Meshuggah brought a nine string guitar onstage and began playing "Bleed" in a lower octave than the original tune. The melody was so heavy and savage, that Satan was tempted to summon himself to Earth to show everyone who was the true master of the brutality that is Metal... Pop music was never heard from again

anyone who corrects someone about genres, argues about, disses or deals with music in GENRES are either scene kids or social cameleon who are specialists on all the generals of every type of person so they can easily fit into every crowd when really they do not belong.
Either case they are not true death metal heads, and are giving themselves away the moment they start to talk about genres this and genres that

Who gives a fuck what it is? It's Meshuggah, it's awesome, let's leave it at that.
donSparda - 23.5.2012 18:02:45

randomrandomrandom54 - 23.5.2012 17:40:48
lamb of god isn't death metal....
dwermc - 23.5.2012 16:07:55
"the only similarities are polyrhythms and a fat low end." making them djent -_-. just Because a band (Suffocation) doesnt sound like another band (lamb of god) doesnt mean they arent the same genre of music (death metal) for example.

yeah they created the djent technique. but they sure as fuck arent anything like the group of bands that people refer to as djent bands. i get butthurt as fuck when people say meshuggah are a djent band. i hate subgenres and shit but... if i had to describe meshuggah with a genre, it would be;
experimental progressive robot-cyborg-alien acid-tripper groove "boaw boawwww djunnn" schizophrenia metal
thats pretty much the best i can do to sum up their sound
Empty89037 - 23.5.2012 8:58:09
Meshuggah is insane in hebrew :)
DrDesumThePanda - 23.5.2012 6:58:32
you djent just say that
DrDesumThePanda - 23.5.2012 6:58:11
wow guys shut the fuck up, it's irrelevant what genre it is as long as the music's awesome.
eatpogs - 23.5.2012 5:26:34
-something genre related- and then I headbanged. Sometimes people miss the point. An independent band named Psychostick cited Meshuggah as an influence sometime back and I looked into them. Glad I did.
hobojoe102 - 23.5.2012 5:04:13
Gotcha, I wasn't trying to be obnoxious or anything
picassopainter2 - 23.5.2012 4:49:23
There's death and deathcore is there not?
Core is a subgenre that usually comes nowhere close to the original in quality...
suizadeamerica - 23.5.2012 3:32:30
your mom is djent
ignac99999 - 22.5.2012 23:02:26
? according to wikipedia, the term was coined by meshuggah
"Coined by Fredrik Thordendal of the band Meshuggah in the early 2000s, the term was popularized through the internet by American guitarist Misha Mansoor, founder of Periphery."
is that incorrect?
CthuluPrime - 22.5.2012 20:17:09
Damn, that drum beat is savage. Talk about endurance
Jiladah - 22.5.2012 19:33:03
your notion discussion is completely unnecessary, who gives a fuck. the only genre meshuggah belongs to is "remarkable innovative music", period
randomrandomrandom54 - 22.5.2012 17:45:31
what makes them djent though? the sound of their guitar? because the composition is COMPLETELY different from bands that most people refer to as djent (periphery, vildhjarta, cloudkicker, etc.) the only similarities are polyrhythms and a fat low end.
hobojoe102 - 22.5.2012 16:37:28
I thought it was just called mathcore?
