Video name: San Francisco - Scott McKenzie

"San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was written and released in June 1967 to promote the Monterey Pop Festival.

McKenzie's song became an instant hit. The lyrics tell the listeners, "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair". Due to the difference between the lyrics and the actual title, the title is often quoted as "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)". "San Francisco" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and was number one in the United Kingdom and most of Europe. The single is purported to have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The song is credited with bringing thousands of young people to San Francisco, California during the late 1960s.[citation needed]

In Central Europe, young people adopted "San Francisco" as an anthem for freedom, and it was widely played during Czechoslovakia's 1968 Prague Spring uprising against Soviet rule.[citation needed]

The song has been featured in several films, including Frantic, The Rock and Forrest Gump (Wikipedia).

If you're going to San Francisco be sure to wear your cock ring and you can take it all the way in. Be stylish; don't be a pussy.

I am surprised at how many people are listening to this song - currently. I lived in SF for almost 8 years, and don't think I will ever get back there due to extravagant rents. And I own a home here in upstate NY. But it would never be the same. I actually live not far from Woodstock and my son is musician. He told me 6 years ago that it is a Ghost Town! So to all you ole; hippies like myself, I give you a peace sign. As I make out of wild grape vines that grow around my house. Peace

MringernetDuke I know just how you feel. That song is so smooth. I wish I knew the original band that played that song with Scott. I'll find it & All the others except a few, who you can tell, we grew up with that song. Most music today is, well lets say kinda bad. People go with cars blasting music. They'll need hearing aids soon. By the way, I wear 2 of them & not from blasting music. I have constant ringing in my ears.

Us "people in motion" were no different to our parents. We let ourselves be fooled by the corrupt and opportunistic politicians who we believed were also "people in motion". I have long distrusted any politician after being lied to countless times . Thanks for posting this song. It's a reminder of what could have been.

At the time it did not seem so cool. I swallowed the blotter and was totally freaking out. But Scott was very nice and compassionate and he conveyed his understanding and calmed me down quickly. The it was time to enjoy all the pretty colors.
