Hell it was the opinions of others that got her in this mess in the 1st place -- So she believes a total stranger when he tells her shes too fat, and she takes it to heart and does something about it -- but when they say she's dangerously thin & endangering her health, she doesnt? I guess fat merits much more disapproval in this fkked up world.

She reminds me of that Sat. Night Live skit where Jimmy Carter was nuked & turned into a giant and the press asks 'Is it true the presidnet is 100 feet tall?" Spokesman "Absolutely not! Rubbish ! Irresponsible journalism" "" Well, is he 90 feet tall?"" "No comment."" LOL yep, she can truthfully and adamantly deny that shes 84 pounds, but if she was asked 89 or 90 pounds, shed prob have a little trouble. Thats still grossly underweight for a woman her height.

ya and that would have fixed everything right? she needed much more professional help and therapy and shouldn't have been released from any hospital until she was at a healthy weight for a long period...she was firmly committed to the idea that she was fat and couldn't see herself differently...she was incompetent and someone should have been her conservator long before she got so ill. it's a shame.

If it was 1974, yeah, definitely, but not 1983; by then, it's too late. The night before Karen Carpenter died, she went to a restaurant, and ate like a normal person; no finicky mannerisms that night.  However, because she spent so many years starving herself, her body wasn't used to the normal dinner she had that night, and her heart gave out. If she took care of the problem sooner, she would've lived, but she didn't seek help until it was too late. :(
