He calls it aluminium :)
This is why I like Apple so much; they don't put pointless pieces of shit onto their stuff and they focus on making it a good experience for the user.
Well...I supposed it would be useful for the USB ports of my iMac to be on the side instead of the back.
But take something like the MagSafe power cable...or the fact that the iMac is all in one...it's much nicer than some plastic homemade bomb...

At least you can update an iPhone, unlike Android phones lol. Unless your carrier or whoever makes the thing blesses you with the rare opportunity to do so... usually many months after the current version ships. ICS is like 7 months old now and the majority of new phones still ship with 2.3 from 2010.

Dieter Rams is actually a massive fan of Ive and his work, and is work isn't "copied", it's what we call "industrial design". If something doesn't need to be there, it isn't. It's about simplicity and designing it in such a way that it doesn't really seem designed at all. It's much more difficult to remove things from a design than it is to add them, which is exactly what you do with industrial design. It's about function becoming the form.

They kind of did, at least the layout we all use today. They were the first to make one with the palm rests and a roller ball (now replaced by trackpads) in the middle of it, with the screen being entirely on its own on the hinge. Most before it opened up like mid way with a smaller screen and the keyboard at the front and required the use of a mouse. So they kind of did invent the laptop, at least how we use them today.

To increase how long it lasts by making it bigger. No mechanism to remove it means more space to be actually used by the battery, thus longer charges. It's also a better battery, it lasts longer in terms of number of charges it takes before dying too. On top of that I don't know a single person who carries around a spare battery for their laptop, they just plug it in, so why not having a removable one is an issue for so many people is a real head scratcher to me lol.

You'll be able to upgrade if it has a 64bit EFI, 64bit CPU and 64bit GPU firmware. They want to kill off 32bit all together, and I'm all for that. I wish Microsoft had the same attitude towards it too, but nope, they still insist on making 32bit versions of Windows. They had the perfect opportunity to go totally 64bit with Vista, considering most people required a new system anyway and it just so happened that ones that could run it were most certainly 64bit ready. But they squandered that.

I don't think he cares. Millions of people all over the world are using and loving the things he spent his time and passion creating. Being paid a crap load doesn't hurt either, but I'm sure the fact his work bas brought joy to so many people is more important to him than talking about environmental factors. Also I'm sure he's proud of that too, as an industrial designer his job is to get rid of anything that isn't needed, which goes hand in hand with more green product design.

I always thought it was such a shame that they got this guy, the guy who designed some of the most influential products of the last decade, and got him to talk about how he reduces the environmental impact of his products. Such a shame.

are they robbers at the NY apple store?
krumaji - 28.4.2012 14:59:39
The amount of enthusiasm of Apple employees makes me buy more and more of their products. You feel like you are buying something which has gone thru a very pure and careful process!
SuperSimonuk - 26.4.2012 0:27:14
do you have one of the newer ones with the sealed battery compartment?
keenkennyny - 21.4.2012 6:54:07
androids have a higher market share because there's a variety of them, some that costs free to the most expensive that costs almost a grand. But none of them are better intuitively, in design, for apps, in smoothness, and overall innovation than the iPhone. If anyone believes this false either by fanboyism or just pure ignorancy, then Apple must have become the most valuable company in the world by magic.
